Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Required Skills and Knowledge

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit; including evidence of the ability to:

safely handle bituminous materials on at least two occasions, including:

storing and using at least four bituminous materials

provide burn First Aid to a simulated burn and tag accordingly

extinguish a simulated fire involving a bituminous substance.

During the above, the candidate must:

identify and report on hazards related to worksite and work activity

work with others to complete the safe handling of bituminous materials that meets required outcomes, including:

organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and systems

using signage to advise others of work activity

clean, check, perform maintenance on and store equipment

complete housekeeping activities.
